North Cascades Wild Church
Marblemount, Washington

North Cascades Wild Church seeks to [RE]define church. That is, they don’t want a building to become their concern. Instead, the communities of Marblemount, Rockport and Concrete are their concern. How can they be better citizens and promote the well-being of all life?

What Makes a Wild Church?

Located in the foothills of the stunning North Cascades, North Cascades Wild Church gathers outside – under the most beautiful of steeples – the sky – with the forest as our building. Together, the Nones and Dones come together to find the Sacred in the greatest of all Cathedrals.

They seek to live in deeper relationships with their community while finding the presence of the Divine within each other and throughout the world. Their gatherings combine contemplative practices along with silent meditative wandering, spiritual fellowship and food.

Collectively, although they are an ELCA congregation, they are not into Christian denominational divisiveness. The emphasis on grace, mystery, and “always REforming,” are Lutheran values that they particularly appreciate.

Newcomers are always welcome to gatherings. They observe a mid-service meditation walk outside, weather permitting, so dress accordingly if you wish to participate.

Working on a World We May Never See

North Cascades Wild Church works toward:

  • The liberation of black and brown-bodied people from white supremacy and from colonized mindsets for all peoples.

  • The discrimination of and social prejudice against people with disabilities based on the belief that typical abilities are superior.

  • The forces of oppression against the LGBTQIA+ that is insidious and require targeted efforts to combat.

Values

  • We revere life in all its unique forms.

  • We live a life of kinship, interconnected with all creation.

  • We are led by what is emerging, what is bubbling up from the earth.

  • We start by listening to the voices on the edge of norms, inviting new ways of meeting, and questioning the way things are.

  • We encourage feed back from marginalized folx so all may feel a sense of inclusion for all.

  • We work toward the liberation of the earth from all destructive technologies.

“We would like to acknowledge that we are on the unceded ancestral lands of the Upper Skagit people. A people that are still here, continuing to honor and bring to light their ancient heritage. We see you, respect your right to sovereignty and self-determination, and are committed to being better listeners, learners, and in lifting indigenous voices.”
